Rebecca Cox MA Art Psychotherapist HCPC, BAAT Mentalization Based Therapist
ABOUT ME
For many years I have been providing individual and group therapy through schools and mental health services. I currently work for a specialist NHS adult mental health service in secondary care providing individual and group therapy interventions for individuals with serious mental health issues. I also supervise art psychotherapy students and other practitioners.
I hold a small private practice caseload through Heart Therapy. In this capacity I am able to provide highly individual safe and structured therapy, clinical supervision and consultation in a calm and confidential space.
I work with adults, young people and families to find creative solutions to the many ups and downs life throws us. I also provide advice and guidance to parents, caregivers and professionals. I have a special interest in ASD, ADHD and neurodiversity.
My approach is broadly psychodynamic. This means working in a deeper way – a bottom up approach – not just looking to ‘fix’ problems but trusting that through understanding the root of an issue, true growth and transformation can happen. I am also a menatalization based therapist (MBT). This approach focuses on understanding mental states, in ourselves and others, and improves our interpersonal relationships. All my work is trauma informed and attachment based.
I am client led and work in partnership with individuals and families to find the best approach that suits them. I have experience of working with individuals with serious mental health conditions but also with people just looking for a space to make new meanings in their lives or unlock the hidden barriers holding them back.
In the past I have provided an art therapy service in a number of schools. I have delivered art therapy groups in a complex needs domestic abuse woman’s refuge residential unit and for the service users at a homeless shelter.
I am also a painter. From time to time I exhibit and sell my work and value this space for self expression for myself.
