What will an art psychotherapy session be like?
All therapy will involve an initial assessment session. This is for me to get an understanding of your needs and for you to make an informed decision on whether art therapy is the right approach for you or your child. This is an important decision and you are under no obligation to continue if art therapy doesn’t feel right for you at this time. Therapy is a partnership and the chemistry has to be right. A clear plan will be made about the number of weeks you would like to commit to and this will be reviewed in an ongoing way.
I am committed to making art therapy as accessible as possible. Although my studio is on the ground floor it has two steps to enter. I can offer on-line sessions where appropriate. I understand the complexities of working with a non ethnically matched therapist and welcome conversations around this. I would also be happy to provide information about finding a therapist who might be a better match for you. Generally, we would meet, in the Heart Therapy studio at the same time, each week. You will be provided with a range of quality art materials for you to choose from. Sometimes clients like to talk while art making and others like to quietly create then we think about the artwork together. Sometimes no artwork is made at all and we talk only. I care for your artworks for the duration of therapy. You are then free to choose what you would like to do with them.
All sessions, and artworks, are confidential.
